Review: Pushmo - called Pullblox in some regions (3DS eShop)

Written By Matt Sainsbury on Saturday, December 10, 2011 | 20:36

The eShop is well and truly away now. After the rather spectacular Zen Pinball and the quirky Freakyforms comes Pushmo, a charming little puzzler from Nintendo first party developer, Intelligent Systems.

The 24 Games of Christmas! Day #10; From Dust

Seeing green and red? It must be Christmas!

Every year the world patiently (or not-so-patiently) counts down those 24 days to Christmas; there’s even calendars filled with little treats to help keep the young ones patient.

Opinion: Dear devs (especially you, Molyneux); stop with the moralising already

Written By Matt Sainsbury on Friday, December 9, 2011 | 17:00

Victoria's Secret angel... get it? Hi Miranda!
In this post-modern world of ours, we are privileged first to possess two types of media – old and new. Considering you’re reading this opinion piece on a website for videogaming, it would seem you’re well versed in the definition, but for clarity I shall include it: old media is newspapers, books, television, radio and magazines. New media is computer games, the Internet, and all the bounty it provides.

OnLive launches iPad and Android app

And the iPad just became the most powerful handheld gaming device.

Like Indie games? Here's the download shop for you!

I'd like to take a moment out of your day to point out a rather great new digital download store; one that focuses entirely on indie games.

Review: Legendary Outlaw HD (iPad)

I have to give full credit to the small indie team behind Legendary Outlaw - it takes a healthy dose of commitment to attempt to develop a FPS when doing so is going to stack you up against massive competition - and people are going to compare you to the heavyweights of the genre.

The 24 Games of Christmas! Day #9; Magicka

Seeing green and red? It must be Christmas!

Every year the world patiently (or not-so-patiently) counts down those 24 days to Christmas; there’s even calendars filled with little treats to help keep the young ones patient.

XBLA slows down for the holidays

So just as the rest of us are picking up steam holiday shopping and caroling door to door (anybody still do that?) the Xbox Live Marketplace is taking a little time to slow down and make snow angels.

Why are you people not buying uDraw tablets?!?!

Written By Matt Sainsbury on Thursday, December 8, 2011 | 16:12

Here's some unfortunate news for THQ - it's greatly revising down its revenue outlook thanks to a complete lack of demand for HD uDraw tablets.

Miyamoto to step down a few pegs at Nintendo

Legendary game maker, Shigeru Miyamoto, has apparently had enough at the top of Nintendo's development devisions, and is stepping back to focus on smaller scale projects, and help develop Nintendo's younger staff.

Digitally Downloaded poll results #8: Do you play single player games, or multiplayer?

This was perhaps the most one-sided poll we've had to date at Digitally Downloaded.

The 24 Games of Christmas! Day #8; Pride of Nations

Series creator Rockstar Games today announced that iOS and Android gamers are going to be rampaging through the streets of Liberty City well in time for the holidays.

Rage demo now available on the PSN

iD Software's Rage has been available at retail and on the PC for quite some time now. And with it's demo finally showing up on Xbox Live a few weeks back, there was only one part of the major digital frontier yet to go.

3DS System Update 3.0 Now Available

If you can manage to connect to Nintendo's servers, you'll see that the much-awaited "November" update has finally arrived on the 3DS. It adds numerous new features to the console including 3D video recording, new StreetPass mini-games, a new home menu icon, and, most importantly, an updated version of the eShop.

Review: Wind-up Knight (Android)

I just came by this game by chance browsing through the market and decided to give it a go. Games that debut on Android are few and far between and especially notable when they are as good as this one. Adding to the game’s uniqueness is the business model that Robot Invader, the games developer, chose for Wind-up Knight.

Gore Verbinski likes Xbox 360

You should have heard of Gore Verbinski by now - the man gave us Pirates of the Caribbean, after all. And now he's getting into games, and Microsoft has a new exclusive content producer.

Review: Grotesque Tactics 2: Dungeons & Donuts (PC)

Grotesque Tactics 2: Dungeons & Donuts is a hybrid strategy/RPG title that pokes fun at the very genre it is a part of. I played the first title some, but never finished it. I found the original amusing at times, though the game itself did little to compel me to complete it. That being said, I was still very curious about what the sequel would bring to the table.

The 24 Games of Christmas! Day #7; Fate of the World

Seeing green and red? It must be Christmas!

Review: Assassin's Creed Revelations (PC)

Written By Matt Sainsbury on Tuesday, December 6, 2011 | 12:09

Assassin’s Creed Revelations is a terrible, broken game. Not in terms of its technical production values – it looks and sounds the part of a blockbuster video game, but if Michael Bay over in the film industry has taught us anything, these blockbuster looks do not guarantee a quality experience.

Retro Review: Lock 'n Chase (3DS eShop)

Lock 'n Chase is a good example of the kind of cheap game experiences that go down well on the Game Boy Virtual Console. As a clone plus more of Pac-Man, this is cheaper than Pac-Man's Game Boy outing, and manages to be a more interesting core game to boot.

The 24 Games of Christmas! Day #6; The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening DX

Seeing green and red? It must be Christmas!

Reminder: Get Binged on Xbox 360

Starting on December 6th (that's tomorrow for everybody caught up in the Holiday haze), Xbox 360 owners will be able to download the new dashboard interface. Coming along with all the enhancements is a little more Bing for your buck.

Review: Defend Your Castle (WiiWare)

Written By Clark Anderson on Monday, December 5, 2011 | 18:00

Defend Your Castle is the sad case of a modest little flash game making a questionable transition to a console. While the original was wholesome, brain-dead fun, the WiiWare version is virtually the same, except for the fact that it has a price tag and "differences" rather than worthwhile improvements. No matter how amusing the art may be, it cannot disguise the experience that is primitive by the standards of other arcade games.

Review: The Bard's Tale (iPad)

People continue to insist the iPad is only capable of playing casual games. Chances are, though, they've never picked an iPad up, let alone played some of the brilliant gaming experiences available on the platform, such as the near-perfect port of PS2 comic RPG, The Bard's Tale.

Join us for some Mario Kart 7?

Yes, it's not a downloadable game, but there's a few of us here at Digitally Downloaded who play Mario Kart 7 online - it's the 3DS multiplayer experience of the year, after all!

Seeing green and red? It must be Christmas!

Review: Foozle (iPhone/iPad)

Written By Clark Anderson on Sunday, December 4, 2011 | 10:59

What is a Foozle? You’re probably wondering this more than whether or not the game is any good. In essence, Foozles are a species of shape-morphing animals that have their own personalities. Some are cute and innocent, wishing only for survival, while others are malevolent and wish havoc upon their joyfully furry brethren. There are five types in all, but they are gradually introduced instead of being shoved down your throat from the get-go, so it’s manageable.

The 24 Games of Christmas! Day #4; Bangai-O HD: Missile Fury
