Review: Chocobo Racing (PSOne, Japanese import)

Written By Matt Sainsbury on Friday, March 4, 2011 | 15:51

One of the best things about the PlayStation 3 is that it’s region free – that is, as long as you have a local credit card or PlayStation Network card, you can buy, download and play a game from any region in the world.

Can you name them all?

The Japanese PSN is filled with brilliant games – both new and old, that you can't get on the English-language services (yet, anyway). Chocobo Racing on the Japanese PSOne classics is one example of this.

Review: Alien Breed: Descent (PSN)

Alien Breed: Descent does nothing new. It’s a direct sequel to the two previous Alien Breed games, with the same gameplay, the same visuals, the same settings, the same gameplay modes and the same flaws. Given that between the three of them, Team 17 is asking people to pay the same prices as a retail package, you’re going to want to be a huge fan to buy into the game again.

Here we go again...

BulkyPix to bring Another World to App Store

Another World is a classic, so it will be interesting to see if the developers behind the shaky Hysteria Project series can pull off a good iPhone and iPad port.

Islands of Wakfu XBLA to launch in March for 1200 points

Written By Matt Sainsbury on Thursday, March 3, 2011 | 22:18

What is it with developers and strange names at the moment? Despite the name though, Wakfu is a really good looking title heading to the Xbox 360.

Sega Game Gear comes to 3DS download

And you thought the 3DS' virtual console would be restricted to Game Boy and Game Boy Color games.

This, in 3D. Mind blown.

Review: Shadow Era, or the game that would be Magic The Gathering for iPad

Written By Matt Sainsbury on Wednesday, March 2, 2011 | 20:41

I've lost track of the times I've wished there was an official Magic The Gathering iPad App. While the PC game is workable, the iPad is a more natural fit for collectable card games (CCG), being more suited for pick-up-and-play, and a natural format for table-top games.

But there isn't a Magic The Gathering App, which means Shadow Era has a big opportunity. CCG fans are typically very committed to their hobby, and quite willing on spending money to collect additional cards - otherwise known as a great business opportunity. So is Shadow Era enough to attract a dedicated fan base?

Yep. This is how warriors dress for battle

New racing game, Fireburst, promises a flaming good time (PSN, XBLA)

Zoo Entertainment is a developer/ publisher that flies under the radar somewhat, but has its name attached to some very good games.
Feelin' hot, hot hot

Firemint gets cheesy and hints at Agent Squeek

Firemint has released its third game and… it’s all about a mouse.

Review: Final Fantasy (PSN download for PSP)

Written By Matt Sainsbury on Tuesday, March 1, 2011 | 21:44

Final Fantasy is such a classic, and has been remade and ported to so many different formats over the years that, when Square Enix announced it was making it available on the PSN, I wondered whether anyone would care.

Then I downloaded it and realised why the game keeps showing up on new formats - it's a compelling game, and such a classic adventure that Final Fantasy fans will always find an excuse to come back.

2D doesn't look much better than this

Preview: Dungeon Hunter Alliance - new video!

Gameloft has been hit and miss with its games in the past, but dungeon hack fans can look forward to the iPad/ iPhone Dungeon Hunter franchise coming to PSN.

Screen shot treasure trove: Rush'N Attack Ex-Patriot (PSN, XBLA)

Konami’s promising 2.5D action platformer (despite having a terrible name), Rush’N Attack Ex-Patriot, is looking even better from the fresh batch of screenshots.

DSiWare games that we'd love to see remade for 3DS

While 3DSware is just around the corner, 3DS owners will still be able to access the DSiWare catalogue. But on a sparkly new 3D console, will playing “mere” 2D games be enough?

Below is a few games that we would buy all over again if 3DS features were added in and the games re-released as full 3DSware games. Let us know in the comments or on our forums what other games you would like to see in 3D!

Ubisoft releases three new Apps

Ubisoft, which has had a minimal impact on the Apple App store so far (at least, if you don't include subsidary Gameloft) has released two new games and a cooking applicataion for iPhone and iPad owners to play around with.

Review: Through the Desert (iPad)

Written By Matt Sainsbury on Monday, February 28, 2011 | 14:31

The iPad has already proven that it isn’t just good at videogame adaptations of board games, it is the new format of choice for board games. From the classics, such as Monopoly, Risk and Scrabble, through to the new wave of Eurogames, such as Carcassonne, A Small World and Catan, the iPad has all but replaced the need to have a physical board to enjoy these games.

This nice lady will show you how to play the game.

Great N64 games still missing from Virtual Console

The Virtual Console is a great thing for gamers with fond memories of the N64, but despite being around for years now, there is a host of games that really should be there, but are not. In this feature we look at seven games - some mainstream, some more obscure, that we would love to see get a second breath of life in downloadable form.
