Every year the world patiently (or not-so-patiently) counts down those 24 days to Christmas; there’s even calendars filled with little treats to help keep the young ones patient.
Then the big day rolls around and it’s filled with great food, great company and, of course, presents.
Christmas is the best time of year, and so to do our bit in celebrating we’re doing our own advent calendar. Each day we’ll unveil another game that has touched us in some way over the year – whether because it’s a work of interactive art, laugh-out-loud funny or just so weird it blew our mind.
So be sure to check back each day for a new game suggestion to fill your Christmas break!
10 Days to Go! Kyuiin
Here’s Kyuiin, another PlayStation One import you’ve never played, courtesy of MonkeyPaw. It’s understandable why this one never left Japan, given the wacky concept of a boy shooting up tennis rackets, angelic babies, vultures, and princesses whilst riding a vacuum.
Some might define the shoot-‘em-up gameplay as an ideal starting point for bullet-hell newcomers. A lot of things can be flying on the screen at once, but given the generosity of power-ups, it’s never too tough to survive the onslaught of enemies. Your trusty vacuum helps keeps enemy fire at bay as well, storing enemies and shooting them back out in a massive beam.
While there are less than ten stages in all, each is reasonably lengthy. To help get you in the Christmas mood a bit more, there’s a fantastic winter-themed stage. Here’s a good one for the drive up to see your family on Christmas Eve.
