Reservoir Mages (and one of the funniest promo videos of all time)

Magicka is a brilliant game that was published by Paradox Interactive earlier this year. We reviewed it back in May, along with its first expansion Magicka: Vietnam, and I know it’s a personal favorite of mine. I have it categorised in my Favorites section in Steam, after all.

Of course, one of the main complaints about the game was that it just didn’t have that much replayability. Sure, you could have some ridiculous hijinks going through the Story Mode, but that would only last you for a handful of hours and you’d be finished. Magicka: Vietnam bumped up your playtime but, once again, you’d be left wanting more by the time you were finished the campaign. Even Magicka: Marshlands only gave us two extra challenge maps and Magicka: Nippon only provided gear for your character. Granted, Paradox gave 50 per cent of all profits from Nippon to the Japanese relief effort and the fact that there have been so many expansions speaks wonders about both the developer and publisher, but that’s neither here nor there.

So what better way to extend the life of this brilliant game than to release a player-versus-player mode to provide endless amounts of fun! Arrowhead Game Studios, in partnership with Paradox Interactive, has (as of June 21st) released a free PvP mode to all owners of Magicka. In celebration of that fact, watch this amazing promotional video that does everything right without ever showing us a single frame of gameplay:

I hope you enjoyed that as much as I did. Now, if you’ll excuse me, I have to go don my robe.
